Tablelands Hiker

NOVA SCOTIA and NEWFOUNDLAND WALKING HOILDAY: 9 Days

- Nova Scotia's Cape Breton Island, Highlands National Park
- Newfoundland's West Coast, Gros Morne National Park

DAY 1-4
Tour Map The first part of this terrific two-province tour includes Nova Scotia's spectacular Cape Breton Highlands. This is a region of unparalleled natural beauty with superb coastal hiking trails. These trails feature captivating coastal mountain vistas and lots of wildlife, including whales, moose, and bald eagles. We also drive the famous Cabot Trail: one of the world's most scenic coastal drives. The Cabot Trail follows the coastal margin of the highlands around the north tip of the island and through Cape Breton Highlands National Park.

DAY 5-8
The next part of this tour is staged on the Island of Newfoundland. After arelaxing 6-hour ferry cruise from Sydney to Port-aux-Basques, we head north along the west coast to Gros Morne National Park.Highlands Trail The park is situated in a scenic coastal area of the Long Range Mountains that is transected by glacially carved fjords. The Tablelands, one of the Park's most prominent and intriguing landforms, is a flat-topped mountain comprised of rock from earth's upper mantle, brought to the surface when the continents collided over 400 million years ago. Gros Morne is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, because the Tablelands provided critical evidence that supports the Theory of Continental Drift. We hike some of the park's fabulous trails and take a cruise ($ included) on a spectacular landlocked fjord cradled between precipitous cliffs and adorned with spectacular waterfalls.

DAY 9
Late on Day 9 we board the ferry for an overnight passage to North Sydney and return to Halifax on the final day of the tour. Tour departs Halifax.
