IRELAND WALKING HOLIDAY: 10 Days - Northern Ireland's North and East Coast
- Northwest Coast of the Republic of Ireland
DAY 1-6
This Irish tour begins with some fabulous coastal walks on the scenic Antrim Coast
and Causeway Coast between Belfast and Portstewart. This area includes
the fabled Giant's Causeway - a unique columnar basalt rock formation
and UNESCO World Heritage Site. We also visit Rathlin Island, for a unique
walking experience and a visit to the Kebble National Reserve to see colourful
Puffins and other seabirds. Our itinerary includes a visit to historic
Londonderry: a city that boasts over 1,450 years of history. Also known as Derry, it is the only completely walled city in Ireland and the United Kingdom. Derry survived a devastating siege in 1688,
and until recent times, it was in the forefront of Ireland's Troubles.
DAY 7-10
The next part of the tour is staged in the Republic of Ireland along
the scenic coastline of County Donegal. North of Londonderry, we explore
the beautiful Inishowen Peninsula, including Malin Head - the most northern
point in Ireland. Continuing westward, at Horn Head we hike on a alluring barren
headland in one of the most remote regions of the Donegal Coast. This marks the
end of our Irish hiking adventure. The return trip to Belfast is an occasion to
relax and enjoy the scenic, pastoral Irish countryside.
Tour departs Belfast.
