Seaside Walkers

NOVA SCOTIA WALKING HOLIDAY - 8 Days ... NEW ...

Bay of Fundy and Cape Breton Highlands

DAY 1-3
Tour Map The fabulous Bay of Fundy Shore is our venue for the first three days. Along the shoreline of the Minas Basin we will witness the rhythmic oscillation and awesome dimensions of the world's highest tides. As the great tide ebbs, we will walk on the bottom of the sea where spectacular rock formations disclose a geological record that includes the dawning of the age of dinosaurs and the rifting of the super continent Pangea. At Cape d'Or, a scenic lighthouse warns mariners of a treacherous headland where the eight cubic kilometres of tidal waters that pour through the Minas Channel churn and roar in a vivid display of natural forces.

DAY 4
On day 4 we make our way to Cape Breton Island, and explore the the fabulous Mabou Hills, near picturesque Mabou Village, in the Gaelic heartland of the island. We hike on wonderful trails that wind through the hills to ridges and summits where we can see the coastline and countryside like it is seen by the bald eagles that often entertain us as they soar over the landscape.

DAY 5-8
Next, we follow the coastal Bald Eagleroad north for 4 days of hiking in the northern highland region of Cape Breton, including the Highlands National Park. The highland region is renowned for spectacular coastal vistas, superb seaside trails, and a variety of wildlife, including moose, bald eagles, and whales (whale cruise available, extra $). The hiking program includes exciting treks to the lofty highland plateau and along some of the island's spectacular, wilderness coastline. We also drive the amazing Cabot Trail parkway which snakes and winds along the shoreline, through the coastal mountains, and up onto the highland plateau in the National Park.

Tour departs Halifax.
