NOVA SCOTIA WALKING HOLIDAY: 6 Days
Autumn Splendor Tour Bay of Fundy and Cape Breton Highlands
This is special tour is designed to showcase the best of Nova Scotia's autumn colours. In early October, the decidious forest of the Cobequid Mountains along the coast of the Minas Basin and the coastal Highland Mountains of Cape Breton Island are an emblazoned portrait of natural beauty.
DAY 1-3
The fabulous Bay of Fundy Shore is our venue for three days of this tour.
Here we will witness the rhythmic oscillation and awesome dimensions of
the world’s highest tides. As the great tide ebbs, we will walk on the bottom of the sea where spectacular rock formations disclose a geological
record that includes the dawning of the age of dinosaurs and the rifting of the super continent: Pangea.
We also retrace the Bay’s fascinating human history.
It includes a period of prolific shipbuilding during the Golden Age of Sail and the colourful and tragic history of the first permanent European settlers,
the Acadians (French), who were deported by the British in 1755.
DAY 4-6
On Cape Breton Island, we hike in the fabulous Mabou Hills, near picturesque Mabou Village, in the Gaelic heartland of the Island. These trails wind through
the hills to ridges and summits that offer panoramic vistas of the coast and countryside. From Mabou, we move north to explore and walk in the Highland Region,
including Cape Breton Highlands National Park. This area is renowned for spectacular coastal vistas, superb walking trails, and a variety of wildlife, including
moose, bald eagles, and whales. Tour departs Halifax.
